A 2025 Year of the Blade Meetup?!

I mean, if some of you sickos want to come to Peoria in September for some fall golf, we could arrange something, but it ain’t gonna be big or overly involved. I would cook a brisket though.

Good evening, friends of the blade. There was some light chatter about a blade meetup in the Blade Challenge thread and I’d be lying if I said this idea wasn’t percolating a bit in my mind grapes. Nothing is concrete, nothing is official, this is as preliminary as it gets. In fact, it’s only going to be a poll with some options and then some qualifiers. I’m not looking for a blood oath and I’m not looking for commitment. All I am looking for is appetite and interest level, so I understand how much more of my day I should waste daydreaming on bullshit.

If there were another Blade Meetup, I

  • would definitely be interested in coming to ND/MN
  • would definitely be interested in somewhere else
  • would be kind of interested in coming to ND/MN
  • would be kind of interested in somewhere else

I completely understand that ND is not an appealing place. However, I live here and I can organize everything here. We had a great time here several years ago, but a lot of that had to do with the fact that there weren’t many people who wanted to come up here, so we had a small group and it was much more intimate (@fugaizi, RIP). We all hung out all weekend and it ruled ass.

The case for: I would do my best to set up as much golf as you could possibly handle, including a definitely guaranteed 36 hole day at my club. There are many courses within driving distance and I am confident I can line something up wherever. It’s also a pretty cheap place to be and I worked out some deals the last time we did it. The airport is about 15 minutes from my club, too. I’ll set up all the rounds, you just gotta get to whatever works for you.

The case against: It’s in North Dakota (and a not fun part of MN).

I am open to having it somewhere else, but I will essentially be handing it off to someone else, if that was the case. That ALSO worked well in 2022, where the STL boys took it over, I didn’t do shit, had a blast, fell in love with a tattooed girl at the last course we played, not that that’s all I think about. This is a fine option, too, but we have to have someone set that up. @Qslusser suggested Michigan, @camgriff2 suggested Illinois. (I am not asking them to do this, just two people who made suggestions) Two places I would be fine with and would probably be more exciting than ND. But I can’t speak at all to the course set up, amount of golf, expenses or timing.

Ideally, at least in my head, if it were up here, we would do it in September, ish, as that worked out great last time. But I am not married to a date (or course, or time, or even doing this).

Let’s see what we cook up and go from there. Who wants to fuck around and make some art?

I just read back through all of the weekends posts and god damn if I didn’t get even more stoked.

I would love to show up to the Fargo airport to troll every single one of you that comes up.

I’m laughing to myself, if this all comes to fruition and works with my work schedule, avoids my anniversary in Sept, thinking how I’m going to bring up the fact I want to go to fucking Fargo, ND to play golf with mostly strangers, to my wife. I can only imagine the reaction I’ll get.

I hate this place more than almost anyone alive, but the fact that a couple of dudes who were here voted that they would come back warmed my heart. And I hope it’s a sign that I would do everything in my power to line up enough golf and bullshit to make it worth it for everyone.

Would love to have ya, if that’s the path it takes.

If I wasn’t doing the Cornstalk again I’d definitely be in, but it’s hard to swing multiple golf trips to middle America in the same year, unfortunately. I look forward to a future meetup.

I’ll try to mule you some more Peach Crush

Honestly STL is number 2 on my list for multiple reasons and Peach Crush is way, way, way near the top.

Don’t click on this

It’s the top. Sorry.

I enjoyed a grapefruit crush a couple days ago

I’d come back in a heartbeat. We played something like 90 holes in 4 days, and it was a blast. Now if we could arrange a day down at Wildflower, that would be sick.

I personally garauntee a Wildflower round because that was one of my only regrets. @JScore and I talked about it, but I believe transportation was the biggest concern. Then we had the hot dad minivan and everything else and it would have been incredibly easy to do.

Seeing as how I’m now on Month Four of unemployment, I not only have the time to help organize in STL, and it’s also likely the only way I’ll be able to attend.

I also would like to come back to STL because I bought a shirt at … Far Oaks? Is that right? And someone set a women’s tee in the men’s section (or I am just a fucking idiot and grabbed one from a very indiscriminately strewn pile and never tried it on) and I want a replacement. Although I am sure they no longer have those sick ass tees.

It’s only a 13 hr drive! Midwest doable, don’t even need to fly.
