2025 Goals Pod (and the Refuge's 2025 Goals)

With the release of the goals podcast, I figured I would get us started in here. Working on my final list today and will hopefully post today/tomorrow.

@Randy careful with the basketball in your 30s! I tried that last year and long story short, it resulted in one veneer and one dental implant. None covered by either dental or medical insurance. :man_facepalming:t5:

@Randy’s checklist of his “concert” experiences in 2024 is like the tales of DT self calling 15 feet gimme putts … you hate to see it :joy:

My golf goals in 2025 include not dislocating my left thumb. :stuck_out_tongue: That’ll be an improvement over 2024.

My goals are not yet finalized but here’s what I’ve got so far.

  1. Average 10k steps a day (I was just about 9.2k this year)
  2. Don’t make worse than a triple bogey all season (Very optimistic but I can dream
  3. Break 80 twice in competition rounds
  4. Watch 1 new movie every two weeks
  5. One spontaneous date with my fiancée bi-monthly

Any advice from folks that have successfully established and executed a nutrition goal? Would like to find something that is realistic for full year and trackable. Ideal goal is to make better food choices while partnering with fitness goals to drop a few lbs sustainably. I’ve drastically decreased alcohol consumption largely due to data provided by whoop.

Some ideas:

  • Track & log food 5 days a week
  • Eat x amount of salads a week as meal
  • Something to do with snacking?

Please let me know what has worked for you!

The first goal in my 2025 goals note

  • Pick up any clothes I put on the floor

If this one lasts two weeks, I’ll call it a success

Has anyone successfully used the code to join the whoop team? I heard COMM-NLUNLU. When I put it in I could not get it to work.

Didn’t hit a many of my 2024 goals as I would have liked, so tried to make 2025 in a way that can foster success.

With one kid and one coming soon - temper expectations

1.Don’t be selfish in amount of rounds played.

  1. Don’t get frustrated playing

  2. 30 Birdies

  3. 2 eagles

  4. Drop handicap to under 9

  5. Walk 20+ rounds or 15 if applicable

  6. Score under 90 on all vacation rounds.

  7. Be frugal in rounds. (Walking, twilight, keep costs down)

  8. Practice more - Range or chipping areas

  9. Keep up with the stack system

  10. Keep up with lessons

Didn’t work for me about 30 mins ago

Thought these out earlier this week:

Golf:

  • Index under 4. Currently at 4.4, could be doable I just need to practice more and gain some yards off the tee.
  • Use the Stack and complete a full training course. I tried to start last year but focused on a swing change and didn’t do much speed work.
  • Enjoy Bandon and not worry about how I’m playing. I don’t ever travel for golf, taking my first trip in June. All the courses are booked over a 5 day window.

Life:

  • Reading: Crushed my 2024 goals; I’ve assembled a huge list of books I want to read. Enjoy and finish 75% of those.
  • Exercise: 4x per week minimum. Even if its just stretching for 20 minutes
  • Drinking wine: Reel it in. Going to do a dry January and dry Lent.
  • Be more patient with everyone
  • Stop buying junk. Been fortunate with work/income etc. This year my wife and I noticed how much useless crap we are buying. It’s just not needed.

I’ve found the easiest way is to just track calories. Make a calorie goal based on your stats and activity level (MyFitnessPal does a good job of this) and just do it that way instead of sticking to a strict diet.
