The only other thing I could add to the summary is, there’s probably another 20 people I could tag in to say thanks / I’m happy I met you / see you in hell. But shoutout Jordan for the rides after my accommodation change, and Steve for the ProV1 / 1x swaps! Also special note to Calvin for puke-and-rallying at the hotel on Saturday night.
talking to @Randy on Saturday - the mudball / play the ball down scenario was absolutely his call and he was 100% tickled by the outcome. #playbetter#solywouldnever etc. etc.
Fun fact for everyone who tried it - there’s actually out of bounds both left and right on 1 tee. OB right is harder to reach, but ya boi found a way. Possibly the only one who did all weekend
the overwatered / overseed greens were extremely true, but also rolling at like a 6. IMO you had to hammer the ball so hard to get it to the hole, reading break was laughable. Anything you hit at sensible pace and break was not getting to the hole
That said, some of those greens are diabolical and I don’t know how you’d pin them if you were rolling 10+. Hole 11 specifically comes to mind, the hole position for the 1st 18, up on the back of the hill? Good luck!
Nobody needs to hear about my game but since the refuge loves airport talk I would like to shoutout Sky Harbor. Sky Train was easily accessible, rental car center was top tier, and you can’t beat that location. All around a great experience and easily one of the best airports of that size I’ve been to
Yo this is WILD to me. I found it to be a dump, and the only lounge I could access was in the wrong terminal. Also, took 45 mins to get bags on Tuesday night and the carousels were all labelled with the wrong flights.
ALSO also as reported above the WJ check-in crew were angels and didn’t charge me. Also, I didn’t get charged for my tacos despite me saying “my bill isn’t near enough for tacos / two beers” - buddy shrugged, and he got the balance as an extra tip.
I did not have the smoothest car rental experience, but since we are in the business of oversharing.
Booked a “Luxury 7 Seat SUV” from Hertz. Showed up, my name was not on the board, then went in to Gold Club and was told that they did not have a Luxury 7 Seat SUV available. Tried to tell me to take a GMC Terrain or a Volvo XC40 and I was not having it. Then they made me wait and offered me a Maserati Grecale. Tried to drive out of the lot, then the checkout made me turn around because the one I was driving was already assigned to someone. Drove it back to the stall and saw the guy who the car was assigned to. Told the guy that Hertz fucked up and I wasn’t trying to take his rental. Went back in and waited for another 20 minutes, then was given another Maserati.
Next time, I will not even take a luxury car in a foreign city. Felt uneasy even though I don’t think I went to any shady areas.
This word also sums up my feelings about playing golf with you - way too much fun, and wildly aspirational to watch you talk shit / drink / tell stories and then immediately lock in and hit GREAT golf shots. Absolutely looking forward to the next opportunity pal.
