I played baseball like a Real American.
Sorry, saw a chance for an extremely niche reference and couldn’t resist.
“I was never into golf,” Cotton said. “My grandpa was a big golfer and I have a distinct memory of when I was 10, my grandfather took all his grandsons out to play golf and I hit the ball into a tree and just burst into tears. It wasn’t for me.
But when COVID rolled around, Ben messaged me and was like ‘We can’t do anything. All we can do is go outside and play golf. If you’re ever going to learn, now is the time.’ The rest is history. The bug hit me pretty hard.”
Yep, that’s the good stuff. Thank you, KVV ![]()
As ZJ might say, it seems we may have lost the thread. Anyways here’s my delayed weekend write up from a great weekend at my first NIT.
I’m a new father and haven’t played a ton of golf this year. With that, I thought it’d be smart to hit lots of balls Thursday night to see what I’d be gaming for the weekend. Fast forward a few shots into my range sesh and the head of my 7 iron has flown 40 yards into the range (shoutout to @wiz and @hwb for helping me run into a busy driving range without having to leave in an ambulance). It was definitely foreshadowing; my game for the weekend could be best described as RKelly.gif.
What I’ll keep coming back to though is despite my swing feeling so completely lost, I still had an amazing time. Everyone I played with and met was great, which made it really easy to get past some bad golf. To give a few specific shoutouts:
@reinben and @CalvinC - joy to play with you each R1/R2 and follow for the finals, deserving champion. I’ve thought about the eagle on 13 almost as much as card tricks this week.
@AmandatoryGolfFriday - talking with you gave me some inspiration to get my wife on the golf course with me more often.
LC - seeing the game in person was so sick. Pretty much sticking a hybrid to a tough pin on 17 during our round was so wildly impressive. Meeting Dobson employee and former LPGA caddie Carl “the machine” had me in stitches.
@duncmitchell, Wiz, @drewp - turns out last place groups rule. One of the most fun rounds of the year for me.
I’ve played in lots of super fun roost events, but this and the summer festival were my first NLU events. It was incredible to be a part of both of them and to get to know @Privatecollection a bit. As everyone has attested, she’s the best in the biz and it’s a real treat to have her here in Denver. Can’t wait for the next one.
Til next time everyone, play well!!
I will respectfully accept your request, but you can thank @RobertHunter for injecting himself into this thread and about 75% of the rest of the refuge threads for the derail.
Tbf, he has a prestigious award named after him that only the finest of golfers win
Very fun Nest pod episode dropped today. @reinben is a natural on the mic and continued Dobson praise keeps giving me the warm and fuzzies.
I mean…
@reinben @CalvinC
And sorry for whoever’s
Round 3 was swell, for sure. I hope we can play together again soon.
DAWG OF THE YEAR
Fun fact, this guy has adult children.

Guis, what the fuck? - Soly - Me

Whatever this is… you’ve been asked several times to take it elsewhere.
I get it, but for those of us have nots lurking here

Let them stay…

And…?
When someone takes a shot at our guy, it’s going to get answered and it was. It doesn’t need to continue.
To be fair, you can’t take a single step around this place without @RobertHunter telling you that ‘this would be better with more trains’ or ‘Tom Kim is good’ and it’s nice to see someone finally call him out on it.
We all have our bits and they’ve been deployed enough in this thread.
Give me more NIT recaps and pictures of shots over carts!
Would you like to hear me complain about getting 6 points over my last 27 holes to miss out on playing in finals by 4 points?
How did it happen?
