My thoughts/takeaways:

  • Uber support can die a slow, painful death. Utterly useless. Uber is dead to me, long live driverless Waymos.
  • The FindMy iPhone app, on the other hand, rules. I now know far too much about our guy "Toyota Camry, MAYOK"s daily habits. Dude loves Dunkin’, went at least three times yesterday with my phone in his backseat.
  • If you ever need to get on a plane with no phone and no ID (yes, my DL was on the back of my phone), apparently a Costco card is the golden ticket to verifying your identity with TSA.
  • People have way too much personal info online. Once I figured out our our dude’s home address, I had his full name, cell phone number, and life story in approximately 3 minutes (his son is quite the basketball prodigy).
  • Shout out to @GremlinGolfer for hanging with me at the airport and basically giving me his phone for an hour so I could try to remedy the situation. Paddy, as many of you know, is the good dude of good dudes but yesterday just reconfirmed that.
  • I’d do it all over if it meant I could play in the 2025 NIT.

I think the highlight of my weekend, besides the stingers you and @FrostyWalrus were hitting off the tee in the 1st round, was the Yeti driver remembering me from last year riding in it during the final round with @JoeyKnish. He was asking about the guy who carried the cooler up the hill when it fell

Okay, still trying to wrap my head around the last few days, but wanted to share my thoughts.

First a few thank yous.

Thank you so much to @Privatecollection for putting on a great tournament. Made everything so easy all weekend so we could just focus on having fun. We truly do not deserve you.

To the PNW guys that were there this weekend, thanks for all the support. Can’t imagine a better group to win with. @fish @jasonnutter @CalvinC @durrtydurr.

Shout out to all the great people I got to meet and play with. I loved hearing about all the different Roosts and hope to travel and play in some other roost events soon. fourleafgrover neven AmandatoryGolfFriday jknudtson albertik89 Asimpson3 bhooveme Spanky_kc Cmac Also, thank you Amanda for the much needed granola bar on 10 that powered my back 9 comeback. Could not have done it without you. Also, I loved the final group with @cwalsh27 @ForeRight46 and @TonyPres. Hope to play again at the next NIT!

Have to mention all the people back home that are part of the PNW Crew roost. They make golf so much fun and it just makes me want to play more. @MrVinegar206 is an amazing roost captain, which is a truly thankless job. I am always looking forward to the next event and love getting to play with the crew any chance I get.

Last shout out goes to my best friend and final round caddie, Calvin. I forced him to pick up the game near the start of Covid and it’s only strengthened our friendship. I hope we get to play a lot more golf and go to a lot more NIT’s together. Love ya, man.

Golf is such a crazy game. There’s so many highs, like winning the NIT, and too many lows, like 5-putting the first hole of the state am qualifier. It can take you all over the world to play bucket list courses and can take you to the local muni 5 minutes away. Golf can be social, individual, isolating, frustrating, celebratory, engaging, meditative, and so many other things. @kvv asked me in the post-round interview (I didn’t have getting interviewed by kvv on my 2024 bingo card) what golf meant to me. It means everything and anything. If I have something to celebrate, I book a round at Chambers Bay. If I’m struggling mentally and need a recharge or reset, I find a way to get on the golf course. Golf provides me comfort when I need it, challenge when I need it, and now community when I need it.

I really didn’t know what to expect when I went to my first PNW Crew event a few years ago, but the whole crew was super welcoming. Since then, I’ve played in countless events, made a ton of connections, and even gotten better at golf in the process. There’s something about the “meaningful, but ultimately meaningless competition” that is so engaging. Even when you’re playing poorly, it keeps you in the game because who wants to finish DFL? Nothing really feels better than pulling off the shot under pressure, no matter how “real” that pressure really is.

Coming into the NIT, I really only had one goal and that was to stay engaged. I think I can call it a success. After doubling the last two holes of the first round I shot a year best 75 in round two. After pumping my first two swings of the day into the range on 10 in round 3 I rallied to shoot 78. All through the championship round, I was able to follow up bad shots with great shots. It was the high flop on 12 after fanning a 7 iron way short right of the green, bunker, and canal. Hitting one of the best drives of the weekend on 15 after a bad 3-putt for double on 14. Smashing a high hybrid over the trees from the rough short of the fairway on 16 after basically topping my drive to save a massive point. Or hitting it to 30(?) feet over carts and all after going WAY RIGHT on the final hole. Before joining the PNW Crew, a lot of those bad shots would have knocked me out of the round, but not anymore. That community, and now the broader NLU group, has made me mentally stronger. I’m proud of the win, but I’m more proud of how I was able to stay in it and just go hit the next shot the best I could.

That said, thanks to everyone for making this weekend so special. Hope to see you all back next year and please hit me up if you’re ever in the PNW and looking for golf!

I was too distracted during our round by the length of your shorts. Didn’t know they made 3” inseams. (3” is a lot for some people btw)

But truly appreciate was one of my most fun rounds of the year.

You would think after this weekend one would be sick of golf.

I am ready for more. Let’s walk another 36. More net golf competition.

While I know it may be touchy subject, I would love to get NLU’s opinions on the @reinben situation. You guys have been big riders for net golf tournaments for quite a bit of years now and cover it more extensively than most other golf outlets.

I have two high cap friends who have both taken a liking to golf. I have no idea where their journey with this sport will take them. But knowing that a low cap can “claim” they are a net golfer and now compete against high caps and potentially my friends doesn’t sit with me. Actually it fucking pisses me off as a bad golfer.

So much so I as well have decided to write letters to RGC and Barstool. As bad golfers we can’t sit around and let our mid-to-high cap competitions be taken over. But for some reason every media outlet has been somewhat quite on a pretty big issue. Hoping you guys won’t.

This is probably going to take two posts since I’ll have to tag more than 10. It will be hard to add more positivity than has already been doled out, but I’ll give it my best.

First and foremost, thank you to @Privatecollection (and your team - don’t know handles) for all you do. It’s so obvious that you care and put genuine hard work into these events. It absolutely shows and I’m glad you’re there to see it.

To my playing partners - here’s some takeaways. I’d tee it up with any one of you tomorrow.

@ChickPhilA - you’re always a ray of positivity with the right amount of BSing during a round - delightful
@Rhyno515 - I’m glad that lady was ok after the first tee shot! We had a good time out there.
@carrybagswag - when the driver gets going that cap will come down, a great playing partner - don’t let his rep here fool you

@JohnP - a real MVP, always fun to play with you and we need to do it more
@Jrob0822 - watching your clinical round while balancing the High Noon intake was aspirational stuff!
@VinnyCal75 - a quiet assassin with the fairway woods, who needs a tee anyway

@JCO - we got a little low energy out there but plenty of fun was still had #hailstate
@seanbaird - a total pro walking out there for the third round, we’ll get up off the mat in 2025
@TheThumbGod - slotting the driver with those big levers was impressive, best of luck in the professional endeavors and I hope we can tee it up again soon

to be continued

To all my friends from before and new friends, the NIT was a culmination of almost seven years on this blog (wow, wild to type that). There is something very special here.

Special thanks as well to @Tron @MerchCzar @Randy @KVV @sundaybag for being all over the place. It was good to talk to you guys some more and I look forward to more in the future.

@GremlinGolfer it was a highlight to finally meet in person. Big shout for volunteering out there.

I’m obviously forgetting someone or something, but if anyone finds themself in NW South Carolina, please reach out.

Jump on the first few calls yesterday morning, the usual small talk.

“How was your weekend?”

“Possibly one of the best of my life.”

le sigh I’ll just go look at Jeff’s photos again.
