Logo is sick as hell.

They do a pretty good job with rebranding the courses. The first thing they did here was rebuild the brand/logo and completely redo the bar and grill.

Ahwatukee is their 4th property. The other Arizona one is also near Phoenix somewhere, that one’s called Coldwater Golf Club.

I couldn’t make it through the whole thing, but Bob Does Sports did a video with Johnny manziel at Quintero, I think.

Ahwatukee CC is less than 10 minutes from where I grew up, one of the courses I learned the game on, and one of two-three courses I have sworn off ever playing again. New ownership may make me reconsider.

Spicy, what caused the course veto?

  • The previous owner who owns (apparently, owned at this point) all the courses in Ahwatukee is a massive POS.
  • Said owner also just let the course go and seemed to not put a single penny into the place for 20+ years.
  • The course is lined with houses on every side of every hole. Most (maybe all?) homes’ backyards are right off the fairway with no back fence. I was paranoid I was going to snipe someone’s grandma doing yard work every time I teed it up there.

The first point is the biggest driver though. There were other Ahwatukee golf courses and he owned all of them. The executive course sat vacant for a decade while legal battles over the land went on. Eventually, the residents one and he was forced to reopen last year. Another one shut down (the best one IMO) and is still sitting vacant a decade later. Another was finally sold and taken over by Troon and on a massive comeback.

Man that sounds super similar to the course I worked at before they bought it. The new owner isn’t afraid to ruffle feathers. His big thing is making courses more playable. They flipped the 9’s here to make it flow better and filled in/sodded like 6 bunkers on the course that dramatically changed the way it plays.

The GM at ahwatukee was the head pro out here for a couple years. Proper British lad who’s a real hoot. They just shared something on Instagram about putting a bunch of hitting bays indoor that look pretty legit.

Quintero is a good option. Will be especially fun for anyone that’s never seen “desert golf”

Quintero is fine if you’re here and only playing it once. It’s quite pretty and not really choked by real estate. (You’ll notice that they spent quite a bit of money building roads and other infrastructure for home that never appeared thanks mostly to the 2008 mortgage crisis.) It’s kick your teeth in hard because Rees Jones likes his golf that way but it’s not as desert penal as some places like Troon or Boulders.

Play it once, then never play it again.

Hot off the press! The 2024 overseed schedule. Pages 24-33 of the attached link.

Notably, Dobson Ranch on the list of courses choosing not to overseed.

Delightful news. More AZ courses should follow suit. Less water, less cost, bouncy turf.

I hope NLU forced their hand (I am sure this is not the case).

Aguila being ready for play around that time is great news for everyone

I might threaten 54 putts in a round.

Online/influencer clout does matter! Love this for the NIT.

Aguila rules*

*Note: this user tied his career low round to qualify for the NIT at Aguila so he is very biased

It’s a gem for sure. I played the shit out of that course and the other munis when I was a junior with the $30 a month pass lol

Love Aguila. It’s very similar to our top muni and I’m 2-for-2 driving the 17th green. Both of the driveable 4s rule.

No asterisk needed. Aguila is awesome.
