The real ones know that Moon Man > Spotties
Literally 100s of pale ales and IPAs > Moon Man
Also true.
War at the âUnder Constructionâ Shores 2023.
Also this:
The proposed plan also reverses the direction of play near the north end.
They are taking your reverse routing mainstream!
Need to get out early this year to play the old routing before 10 months of construction.
We got a REALLY good look at the improvements being made last November at the event.
In summary:
Hole 1 is going away, but the greensite is being added to a practice green near the road to make a putting course. Hole 2 now becomes Hole 1, with a green pushed up against the Canal and quadrupled in size from the previous green that was there (already under construction, thereâs a temp green there now)
3-5 stay the same but now as 2-4.
6 (now 5) is where 7 is, but flipped around with a green being built near the 7th tee. They are adding a âbyeâ hole (100ish yds) that aims at the Temple with an infinity green along the bank of the canal. Then flipping the current 6 to play back towards the street as the new 7.
Everything else stays the same routing wise from there. The green on 16 will be moved up closer to the canal so 17 can be lengthened.
Sweet, thanks for the update. Fantastic news that there will be a nice practice area/putting course.
Pissed off the neighborhood, lasered a teaching pro, almost took out a back windshield, but by god Canal Shores got their bag. Mission accomplished.
Any word on putting in a rope swing to cross the canal or possibly a sick waterslide?
Who needs bridges, rope swings or ziplines only.
This looks too safe.
At the risk of sounding naive about the Kemper management side of things because I really donât know much about that⌠are most people pro or con renovations?
A better practice area sounds nice, instead of a 1980âs astroturf green.
Maintaining most of the current routing sounds like a good thing.
I imagine irrigation improvements is positive.
Are we worried about increase in greens fees? Loss of community feel? Is it not possible to maintain the current strapped vibe while also improving the course? Iâm incredibly optimistic generally, so maybe Iâm just not giving enough weight to the potential of âcorporation moves in, sterilizes everything, and a strong community gets lost to progress.â
I think the master plan that Jason Way* tried to have them do (before he got a little, shall we say, sidetracked) was larger practice area and 12 hole course. More family and time friendly, not so cramped. That was pre-Kemper though.
*For those who donât know him, Jason really started spearheading a lot of the clean up work out there years ago.
Yeah to echo @wseitz26 a little - the goal was always to have a larger group come in and renovate the course.
JWay wanted someone like Andy Staples or Rob Collins or someone like that to come in and give it Sweetenâs vibes. He did a LOT by hand with approval of the course, and I know a few proposals fell through from locals wanting to keep the course 18 holes.
With JWay and the board not really being around during covid - it was the perfect window for Kemper to swoop in and do it by throwing money at it. Which on one hand is a GREAT thing for the course, maintenance and renovation. What we all hope doesnât change is the $20 green fees and âhomegrownâ vibe of the placeâŚwhich is still TBD
The master plan for Canal Shores has officially been released!
Take a look at the new routing/renovations:
How much do I have to donate to turn off the auto-carousel on that page?
Meanwhile, holes three and 16 will be shorter, with the former being directed away from houses in the area, Rooney said.
Looks like our boy Dimitris got them to cave and move the former #4 away from his new build. Sad to see. I would hope a decent bit of that $5.9mm came from that negotiation.
